Star Coin 3 - On the way to the secret exit, the Star Coin should be in plain sight.Ground pounding the top of the box will reveal an opening. Star Coin 2 - A huge plethora of blocks surrounds this coin.
Star Coin 1 - In the beginning of the level, it can be found on a ledge that needs the use of bricks to get it.Using the red-flag exit unlocks a different path that directly leads to a secret Toad House and the tower of that world.
Running across the gap will lead to the third Star Coin and a pipe, which will lead to the red-flag exit. Towards the end of the level, there will be a small gap at the top of the screen like World 1-2 in the original Super Mario Bros. Alternatively, in a nod to World 1-2 from the original Super Mario Bros., Mario can continue upward and to the right to find the level's third and final Star Coin and a pipe leading to a secret Goal Pole. The first pipe can also be entered to find a secret area with a few extra coins, as well as a red Koopa Troopa whose shell can be used to clear away a row of Brick Blocks below, revealing another hidden area filled with Goombas, as well as a ? Just after this, a Goomba appears, the first of many throughout the level. There are also additional coins that can be collected with more Ground Pounding.
Right after this are two ? Blocks, one of which contains either a Super Mushroom or a Fire Flower, depending on Mario's current form. In order to unlock this Cannon, you must find World 1-Fortress's secret exit. This Cannon has green Koopa Paratroopas, and a Red Ring. 2 World 1-Cannon is the first Cannon in New Super Mario Bros.
